Course description: English 2/Business English will help students to build the language of  business required to communicate effectively in the world of work. Students will develop the four language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) by means of practice exercises on the business-related topics in the course textbook and in the additional resources provided in class. The additional resources will be uploaded to the 2016/17 wiki. Special focus will be dedicated to grammar usage and writing skills during Lettorato classes in order to help students gain awareness of and avoid the most common mistakes in their English.

Lettorato classes (first semester): Group A (L16) on Tuesdays, 11am-1pm in the computer lab (main building, 4^th floor); Group B (L36) on Wednesdays, 8:00-10am (Room 1A H3).

Lettorato classes (second semester): the two groups will be joined into one, twice a week.

Evaluation: the final exam will include two listening and comprehension exercises, two reading and comprehension exercises, a grammar exercise, a writing task, and a speaking part with focus on vocabulary and grammar usage and pronunciation. The speaking part of the test will be based on the content of the book.

Listening, reading, grammar = 50%; Writing = 25%; Speaking = 25%

Classroom participation: It is only through regular practice that progress can be made in any language. Attendance is highly recommended. Students with at least 70% attendance and a record of active in-class participation will be exempt from the speaking part of the final exam. Active in-class participation includes: always speaking English in class; conversation in pairs/small groups in English; answering questions and prompts from the book, from other students and from the professor;  giving short presentations in class with teacher feedback. Non-attending students are also expected to submit their homework for correction in a timely fashion, either during office hours or by email on an attached Word document.

Descrizione corso: Il corso di Inglese 2/Business English aiuterà gli studenti ad acquisire il linguaggio commerciale necessario per comunicare con efficacia nel mondo del lavoro. Il corso permetterà agli studenti di sviluppare le quattro abilità (ascolto, lettura, speaking e scrittura) attraverso lo svolgimento degli esercizi pratici sugli argomenti del libro di testo e delle risorse aggiuntive proiettate o distribuite in aula.  Le risorse aggiuntive verranno caricate sul wiki del 2016/17. Durante le esercitazioni di Lettorato verrà dedicata particolare attenzione all’applicazione delle regole grammaticali e alla stesura di testi scritti, affinché gli studenti imparino a riconoscere e ad evitare gli errori più comuni.

Esercitazioni di lettorato (primo semestre): gruppo A (L16), il martedì dalle 11:00 alle 13:00 in laboratorio informatico (edificio centrale, 4° piano); gruppo B (L36), il mercoledì dalle 8:00 alle 10:00 in aula 1A (edificio H3).

Esercitazioni di lettorato (secondo semestre): le esercitazioni si svolgeranno due volte la settimana per entrambi i gruppi.  

Valutazione finale: L’esame finale comprenderà due esercizi di ascolto, due esercizi di lettura, un esercizio di grammatica, la stesura di una lettera commerciale e una prova di speaking basata sui contenuti del libro con attenzione particolare al vocabolario, alla grammatica e alla pronuncia.  

Ascolto, lettura, grammatica = 50%; testo scritto = 25%; speaking = 25%

Partecipazione attiva: Le lingue si imparano facendo pratica ed esercizio in maniera costante.  La frequenza al corso è pertanto altamente consigliata. Gli studenti che avranno partecipato attivamente ad almeno il 70% delle lezioni saranno esonerati dalla parte dello speaking il giorno dell’esame finale. Gli studenti che partecipano attivamente sono coloro che a lezione si esprimono solo in inglese, svolgono le attività di coppia/gruppo relative allo speaking  in inglese, rispondono in inglese alle domande del testo, degli altri studenti e del docente; espongono brevi presentazioni in classe con feedback da parte del docente.  Gli studenti non frequentanti sono invitati a trasmettere compiti per la correzione nei tempi dovuti, o durante l’orario di ricevimento oppure via email (non come allegato pdf ma Word).
