Jean Monnet Module The Rule of Law in the new EU Member States” (EUinCEE)

A Jean Monnet Module is a short teaching course or programme in the field of European Union studies at a higher education institution.

In 2020 the European Commission Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA) selected for EU co-funding the application of the University of Trieste (Italy) for a Jean Monnet Module entitled “The Rule of Law in the new EU Member States” (project EUinCEE: 620097-EPP-1-2020-1-ITEPPJMO-MODULE).

The successful application was submitted by Professor Serena BALDIN of the University of Trieste.

The Jean Monnet Module “The Rule of law in the new EU Member States” (EUinCEE) tackles specific aspects of EU integration studies in an attempt to thoroughly describe and explain how Europeanisation works. The Jean Monnet Module EUinCEE offers two modules at the University of Trieste. The first one is an in-depth postgraduate module on “The Rule of law in Central and Eastern Europe: legal and political insights”. Its purpose is of stimulating knowledge on the underlying issues to the concept of rule of law, a key requirement for EU membership. The module is aimed at investigating the relationship between Europeanisation and democratic consolidation as well as at analysing the rise of populism and euroscepticism in this area. The second one is an undergraduate module on “The EU enlargement process in the Western Balkans”. Its purpose is to deepen the knowledge on the EU enlargement process introducing the principles inspiring the EU action and highlighting the main steps ahead made by the Western Balkan countries and the challenges that they still face on the path towards a full EU integration.

Further to teaching activities, the project EUinCEE includes research and dissemination activities. All outcomes are available in this webpage.
